BOCA RATONBoca Raton is the southernmost city in Palm Beach, County. " Boca" is a Spanish word for mouth, while "raton" is Spanish for mouse or rat. "Boca Raton" describes the inlet (mouth) to Boca Raton from the Atlantic Ocean. Spanish sailors used the word "raton" to describe the rocks lining the inlet that gnawed (as would a rat) at the ships' cables. Although primarily a residential community, Boca Raton became well known in the late 1960s into the 1970s as the home of IBM's personal computer development complex. Boca Raton was one of the last Palm Beach County cities to experience significant growth, and as a result of it's strict development code is one of the most attractive cities in southeast Florida.
